Why words?
Language, and the study of writing, has formed the way I see and understand the world.
I utilise writing as a way of branching the left and right brain divide between the numinous and the known. This becomes particularly juicy as I try to use words to describe and understand high strangeness and deep darkness, the territories and qualities of the unseen — such things that so often defy and escape language.
Before I became a healing arts practitioner, I studied English Literature at university and taught creative writing for four years. While I was broadly enamoured with many genres and writers, I held a particular interest for modernist writing, the peculiar and piquant flavour of medieval literature - as well as so-called ‘deviant’ literature which articulated taboo and transgression, sexuality and intensity.
I found that words could meet, untangle and articulate what was otherwise mired and oblique. My study and practice of magic now reinforms the understanding that words are powerful and indeed spells.
I am especially interested in exploring literary form and the possibilities offered by the lyric essay. I intend that my writings carry the charge of a magickal working. As with all offerings under A Metaphoric Body, they are intended to inform, awaken and liberate.

I am also anticipating the print release of several pieces, including my essay Haunt the Future With Your Pleasure in the upcoming Wandering Wizard anthology. Other projects are underway, including a creative-critical memoir that explores my relationship with sacred sexuality.
